In the process of changing over to WordPress I came across this draft item. I am sure that I ended up using it elsewhere, but just in case, will add it. This journey of learning to use WordPress is allowing me to look back on my own learning journey with the Master of Education (Knowledge Network and Digital Innovation). Reflection

My course colleagues (THANK YOU) have come to my rescue with other resources about C-K Theory. The film Designing the unknown by Mines ParisTech moved my understanding forward to give me a clearer picture of the different elements. Hence ‘fixation effort’ are what we need to overcome. It is when we don’t use the knowledge we have, and we need to overcome what our mind fixates on e.g. optical illusions.

To expand upon our ideas we need to 1. give a different meaning to an existing object by interpreting it differently and 2. create a new object. C-K Theory came from ‘the forcing method’ where 1. we provoke expansion of ideas or create new object by step by step adding new unexpected properties so a new object appears; and 2. select attributes to get the properties we want. At this point in time the thing we want to create is ‘undecidable’.

This brings in the element of the Concept space (C-Space) e.g. we think about a concept which we have not heard about such as a flying boat – then we add and bring together all the attributes that we know about ‘flying’ and ‘boat’ which will expand toward the generation of a new object. We are developing an imaginary space. But these attributes come from our knowledge space – what we already know – and it is thise that provides new attributes that we can use in the Concept space. The more knowledge we have the more we are able to generate new conceptual directions in the C space. So each space is reliant on the other, with activating new ways knowledge and our knowledge changing with it.
